I get lots of looks here, probably because I am (?) the only non-Asian in town. The looks are not ones of curiosity. They are of suspicion, annoyance and sometimes a little fear. And it's understandable. Why do I say this? Common sense.

Are most journalists who exaggerate and lie about prostitution fellow Asians? No. Are NGO investigators out to follow men having a good time Chinese? No. Typically they are Anglos. I look American.

So, punters are probably concerned that I might be here to ruin their little 'paradise'.

Making quick assumptions is normal. And essential for survival. Are most Muslims terrorists? No. Are most suicide bombers young Muslim males? Yes. So, if I am in law enforcement I am going to pay special attention to the 20-year-old firebrand with a moustachless beard and two wives in tow and not the 50-year-old female Korean reading her Bible.

So, I support racial profiling even when I am the 'victim' of it.
