Hi all

Thai movies & dramas are known to be well scripted and very much actual events that may have taken place. (Some directors derive their ideas from such)

A good way of brushing the use of the Thai language may be listening to songs or even watching movies/dramas.

Here in our island, not many Thai movies, let alone dramas, get to grace our cinemas...but from time to time there are some that are missed out.

Hopefully you guys can share Thai movies/dramas you have watched either here or in Thailand or anywhere else, and if you liked the movie/drama so much - we could either purchase the dvd/vcd here (www.ethaicd.com) or even if it is currently being shown in the cinemas (for movies).

Try to give snapshots, syspnosis or even pictures to give potential viewers a review. :)

Me and Suteerak1099 watched this movie during the week and found it quite entertaining...there are subtitles at the cinema, but we were more engrossed with how the story was written...and as usual, the climax ~ that was almost "Shutter" quality.

Me...Myself ~ ขอให้รักจงเจริญ

http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee18/jwny1/200px-Me_Myself_movie_poster.jpg

Directed by Pongpat Wachirabunjong

Produced by Thanya Wachirabunjong / Piyaluck Mahatanasab

Starring Ananda Everingham / Chayanan Manomaisnatiphap

By Sorradithep Supachanya

He cooks. He cleans. He loves her for who she is, and he is everything her ex-boyfriend is not: gentle, sensitive, and supportive (no, you don’t look fat in that dress). What’s the problem? He’s gay and she doesn’t know it. Neither does he.

Such is the premise of Me Myself, a big screen directorial debut from veteran actor and television director Pongpat Wachirabunjong. It opens with a heartbroken Oom accidentally hitting a man and giving him amnesia. Feeling guilty, Oom takes him into her own apartment and calls him Tan after the word on the necklace found on him. They fall in love but soon discover that Tan is gay and, more shockingly, the star of a transvestite cabaret show in Phuket (don’t worry, this is not the climax; I’m not spoiling the movie for you).

Me Myself is supposedly a tear jerking romance but I had some troubles shedding tears because one element of the character and plot seems so incredible: can an amnesiac transvestite who suffers identity loss but fully retains his personality and normal intelligence “forget” his gay experience? As the movie later shows, Tan grows up among transvestite cabaret showgirls and has been cross-dressing and putting on makeup since childhood. So, it seems a little unrealistic that one tragic accident can completely suppress all these experience (yes, suppress because all the memories later return), and Tan feels nothing when he goes through Oom’s cosmetic kit and wardrobe or sees a cute guy walks on by.

After discovering Tan’s gay past, the movie seems to wanders aimlessly as it dabbles with various unconnected subplots, such as Tan’s readjustment to his cabaret lifestyle, Oom’s problem at work, and her relationship with her young nephew. It ignores topics of love, sexuality, or social acceptance. Was their love real? Is their love based on friendship rather than attraction (platonic vs. romantic)? Is he ready to question his sexuality and feeling? Can they live together? These are questions that come up after the revelation, but are never answered in the movie.

Personally, I feel that this movie would work better if Tan is never a transvestite showgirl. Cut out that element and we still have an enjoyable romantic story about guy without a past falling in love with a girl who wants to forget about her past. After all, the movie already seems that way, as it devotes most of its time to showing the audience how the two protagonists fall in love. In the beginning we see Oom treating Tan as a suspicious stranger and putting on three levels of locks on her bedroom door to keep him out. But, soon Oom notices how Tan supports her when she needs somebody (the stage show scene) or how he makes a fool of himself for her (the karaoke scene). This part of the movie is well-paced and the romance not only heavy on the emotions but also logical and believable. Here I must applaud screenwriter Kongdej Jaturanrasmee (whose work includes another tear jerker The Letter in 2004) for such as feat

http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee18/jwny1/mm2.jpg

Chainant Manomaisantiphab makes her acting debut here as Oom and is convincing as a sassy 20-something career woman, a reluctant host to a stranger, and a surrogate mother to her nephew. But, she is a little too stoical when it comes to displaying complex emotions after discovering Tan’s identity. Ananda Everingham (of Shutter fame) is excellent here playing Tan. Keep an eye on his small gestures, such as the way he sits or waves his hands, they clearly communicate his character of a guy with elusive past and conflicting emotions. He is surely among the best of his generation.

I agree not much Thai movies release here except those with box office potential & even these are once in a blue moon. 2 weeks ago I ask my GRO gf go watch the movie "ALONE", she said BKK shown long ago. DVD rental shops now stock more Thai movies though but mostly of the horror genre.

Anybody who like the Thai History should go for the

King Naresuan. (Phra Naresuan)

Currently Part 1 and Part 2 already available in the market. But unforunately i still cannot find those with english subtitle and they show are using the ancient language so it is quite tough for the beginner to understand.

Just finished the part 1, it seems a bit slow.

I have this documantory in my HDD, about to delete but maybe see if anyone here interested in it, i'll upload it.

It's called the Virgin Trade.

Summary:
Filmmaker Stuart Kershaw embarks on a journey through Thailand's red light districts to investigate the world's largest sex industry. This exploration of international sex tourism turns expectation on its head, in an expedition that is as brutal in its honesty as it is unexpected in its conclusions. But who are the victims? Are parents selling their children into brothels to finance lavish Western lifestyles? Or do orphans fill the demand - smuggled into sex-work after disasters like the Tsunami? Stuart bulldozes a host of Thailand's urban myths whilst viciously affirming widespread exploitation and deceit.

i guess the DOP & EP deserves some credit, for some of the angles shot. like the roof top scene (http://www.memyselfmovie.com/Gallery/Wallpaper/W5.jpg), the old skool phone booth in the middle of a lalang field, the worn out house number plate, they typical corridor scene, the color combination (http://www.memyselfmovie.com/Gallery/Still/S6.jpg) for wardrobe & skating rink, the messed up room (http://www.memyselfmovie.com/Gallery/Still/S5.jpg), standing in the rain (http://www.memyselfmovie.com/Gallery/Still/S2.jpg) at the theme park... etc

not to mention the self portraits of Oom in her home... nostalgic stuff.

Nang Nak (Thai: นางนาก) (http://youtube.com/watch?v=bDqew5U68Q4) - a romantic tragedy and horror film. 1 of my all time fav thai romance tragedies. i can vividly recall how awed i was with the gentleness of the thai language, and the lasting impression embedded in me, of what it really means when they say; "till death us do part"...

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/72/Nangnakcover.jpg/200px-Nangnakcover.jpg

Directed by: Nonzee Nimibutr
Produced by: Visute Poolvoralaks
Written by: Wisit Sasanatieng
Starring: Intira Jaroenpura, Winai Kraibutr
Music by: Chartchai Pongprapapan, Pakkawat Vaiyavit
Cinematography: Nattawut Kittikhun
Editing by: Sunij Asavinikul

Synopsis
In rural village in Thailand, Mak (Winai Kraibutr) is sent to fight in a war and leaves his pregnant wife, Nak (Intira Jaroenpura). Mak is injured, and barely survives. He returns home to his doting wife and child, or so he thinks. Mysterious events occur around the village.

A friend visits and sees Mak living together with Nak. The villagers, knowing that Nak died in childbirth several months previously, realize what is happening, that Mak is spellbound by Nak's ghost. People who attempt to tell Mak, or who know too much, are killed by Nak's ghost, who becomes more active in her aggression due to her inability to accept her early death and her frantic desire to stay with her husband.

Toward the end, Mak discovers what is happening, and shocked, flees to the local temple. The villagers attempt several solutions, including burning down the house and in the end summon a ghost banisher to destroy her forehead (this would destroy her soul as well as the ghost).

The country's most respected Buddhist monk (in the film Somdej To) arrives in the final moments, takes charge and in a tearful farewell Nak repents, leaving her husband to live his life. Somdejto has the centre of her forehead cut out and made a girdle brooch. He wore it till his last day. The epilogue states that it later became in possession of His Royal Highness Prince Chumbhorn Ketudomsak. Then, handed down to many others, nondetected. Until now nobody knows where the item is.

Background
The story of Mae Nak Phra Khanong is famous and a favorite among Thai people. There is a shrine dedicated to her at On Nut, Sukhumvit Soi 77 in Bangkok's Suan Luang (formerly Phra Khanong) district.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/00/Shrinetomaenak.jpg/150px-Shrinetomaenak.jpg

The tale has been depicted on film numerous times since the silent era, with one of the most famous being Mae Nak Pra Kanong in 1958. Even after this 1999 version, British filmmaker Mark Duffeld directed a remake in 2005 called Ghost of Mae Nak. There also is an opera, Mae Nak, by Thai composer Somtow Sucharitkul.

This movie I have the DVD and I can only say I rate it 3.5 stars but it is upon a total of 10. It is lousy and a waste of money. My thai friend even borrowed from me and after watching told me its a lousy movie too.

The plot is lousy, acting is exaggerated more to slapstick and the actors on the whole are creating lame jokes. If its the 1st time one is watching a Thai comedy, maybe can give this a try if one has time to spare.

13 Game of Death.

Part Comedy/ Part Thriller

Synopsis:

13 is a new and very secret competition offering a grand prize of 100 million Baht. The contestants are chosen from those most afflicted with problems involving work, money, family and love. If they can complete 13 tasks, they'll receive riches beyond their wildest dreams. But there's a catch...the challenges will test them in every aspect of their lives from love to religion and even moral values. They may seem undemanding when they start but as they progress they become increasingly more intense until finally, they reach a stage where they are no longer sure if they are human anymore. As with every game there are rules and these rules must be obeyed at all times. If they fail even one of the tasks, they will be dismissed from the game. The rules prohibit them from giving up from telling anyone else that they are playing and from investigating the origin of the game. A man named Phuchit is delighted to be offered the chance to compete, little realizing that it will cost him his friends, his family, his sanity and perhaps his life...What wouldn't you do for money?
============================
The first few challenges are funny but the latter part of the movie gets a bit too serious and exaggerated

The latter part let it down. 6/10 rating. See it if have time

Yam Yasothon - แหยม ยโสธร

http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee18/jwny1/200px-Yamyasothon.jpg

Directed by - Petchtai Wongkamlao

Produced by - Prachya Pinkeaw

Starring - Petchtai Wongkamlao, Janet Khiew

Plot:

The story is set in 1967 Yasothon Province, Thailand, where Yam is a hard-working, humble and kind farmer – kind that is except when it comes to the attentions of Joei, the homely maid of Soy, who is the girlfriend of Yam's cousin, Tong. Yam tends to stray and injured animals of all kinds, but he never has nice things to say to Joei. Despite this, she persists in flirting with Yam and making unwanted physical advances.

Meanwhile, Soy and Tong cuddle, kiss and hug each other at every opportunity.

Soy's aunt, the haughty village moneylender, Dok Toh, disapproves of Soy seeing Tong, whom Dok Toh believes is too low class for her niece. She orders Soy and Joei to stay away from Yam and Tong. The social-climbing Dok Toh additionally arranges for Soy to meet the handsome yet dull son of the local sheriff, who has a pair of slow-witted henchmen who will help enforce Dok Toh's orders that Joei and Soy never again see Yam and Tong.

However, on the night of a village temple fair, Tong and Soy and Yam and Joei sneak away and each couple finds a place to spend the night together. Tong and Soy stay up all night talking about their true feelings for one another, while Joei takes sexual advantage of Yam.

Dok Toh finds out about Joei and Soy's misadventures and arranges to send them away to Bangkok. Soy will attend a trade school, learning English language and secretarial skills while Joei will learn to be a seamstress and hairdresser. With the money earned while she is in Bangkok, Joei transforms herself by creating a new wardrobe and undergoing beauty treatments, including having her skin lightened, a prominent mole removed and her teeth straightened and whitened.

In Joei's absence, Yam begins to long for her, discovering that he had a place for her in his heart after all. Both Soy and Joei write letters to their men, but they hear nothing in return. It turns out that Dok Toh has bribed the postman to deliver letters addressed to Yam and Tong to her, and she in turn dumps the letters into the river.

Joei and Soy determine that their letters aren't getting through, so they write to the abbot at the local Buddhist temple and ask him to deliver their letters to Yam and Tong.

Yam and Tong, meanwhile, strike out on their own and head for Bangkok to try and find the girls. Neither had ever been to the city before, and did not realize how big the capital was. Discouraged by their lack of success, they return home, but through the efforts of the monk, they finally hear from Soy and Joei.

The girls return to Yasothon for Songkran, and Soy is reunited with Tong. Yam is heartbroken when he does not see Joei on the bus. In fact she was on the bus, but because she had drastically changed her appearance, Yam did not recognize her, and showed no interest in Joei when she approached him.

The engagement of Soy and the sheriff's son is still on, though. Tong falls into despair, starts drinking and becomes a hopeless alcoholic. On the day of the engagement ceremony, Tong's father shows up with shotgun to disrupt the proceedings. He points out that Soy does not love the sheriff's son and he demands that Tong be allowed to marry Soy.

As for Yam, he comes around and sees that Joei is the same woman, even if she's changed on the outside

since you have watched Me, Myself, how about commenting on the character Tan'ya' which was played by Ananda Everingham. Comment properly because after you comment, I will bring in a comment which you posted before on transvestite. :p

SC my comments? he was rasied in a queer environment, and accustomed to being the 0 instead of the 1. his guardian also commented that (s)he should've let him choose his life. while another of the "sisters" also remarked that the path was chosen.

by the way, i mentioned transvestite or transexual? there's a difference.

I am surprise no one mention this movie yet. It was very popular in Asia due to its universal theme. Anyone know what happen to the girl actress Focus Jirakul who played Noi-Naa?

Fan Chan (Thai: แฟนฉัน, English: My Girl) is a 2003 Thai romantic comedy film offering a nostalgic look back at the childhood friendship of a boy and girl growing up in a small town in Thailand in the 1980s. It was the debut film by six young screenwriter-directors, Vitcha Gojiew, Songyos Sugmakanan, Nithiwat Tharathorn, Witthaya Thongyooyong, Anusorn Trisirikasem and Komgrit Triwimol. With a soundtrack that featured Thai pop music of the era, Fan Chan was the top domestic film at the Thailand box office in 2003, earning 140 million baht.

Plot
Jeab, a young man working in Bangkok, receives word that his best friend from childhood, Noi-Naa is to be married. While driving back to his hometown, the memories of his friendship with her come flooding back, and their story is told in a flashback.

Jeab and Noi-Naa live in a small city. Their fathers are rival barbers, with shops situated next to each other, with only a sweet shop to separate them. Jeab's father favors efficiency and uses an electric trimmer. Noi-Naa's father, meanwhile, has a more contemplative, artistic approach, and uses scissors. Jeab notes that the results of both methods seem to be the same.

Jack and his friends play Chinese fantasy characters after schoolThe school holiday is ended. Jeab is notorious for oversleeping, so that each day he misses the school bus and must be driven part way by his father on a motorcycle. By taking a shortcut, Jeab and his father are able to catch up to the bus, but only just in time.

On the bus, other boys are introduced. Their ringleader is an overweight bully named Jack. On the bus, the children talk about what they are going to do after school. The boys decide they will play Chinese fantasy characters, while the girls plan to play "house".

Because Jeab must cross a busy street to play with the boys, and he fears getting hit by a car, he stays to play with the girls, which makes him the target of much taunting by Jack and the other boys.

Then, one day, Jack and his friends are playing soccer against a rival neighborhood gang. They are one player short. Jeab happens to be hanging around, and he's asked to join the game, proving his abilities.

He earns the trust of Jack's gang, and passes various tests in order to join. But the one thing he must do is sever his ties to Noi-Naa. Jeab does so, quite literally, by cutting a rubber-band jump rope, which Noi-Naa is skilled at playing with.

From that moment on, Noi-Naa refuses to talk to Jeab. Then, one day, Jeab gets word that Noi-Naa is moving away. And, of course, on the day she is to leave, Jeab oversleeps and misses the chance to say his final goodbye to Noi-Naa. Jeab then gets Jack and his friends to commandeer a delivery motorcycle and pursue Noi-Naa and her family in their moving truck. But the motorcycle breaks down, and the truck rolls out of sight. Jeab is to never see Noi-Naa again ... until her wedding.

Great thread! TS,

Personal Comment : Soundtrack of this movie is very popular in bkk malls and its constantly playing, right now even playing while I am typing away this review at the free hotspot , near my apartment here in Ratchada. It's an interesting movie and the posters are very provocative.I have yet to watch it , though I may do so later , if my date is up for it.

Even though its a movie about Gays, It's entertaining enough and I must applaud the makers and directors for making this movie and its subject matter.

Bangkok Love Story

Stars: 3/5

The first half of Bangkok Love Story climaxes with a hot rooftop sex scene; in the second, its protagonists fail to establish a relationship. The catch is that the lovers are both men: a fresh Police Academy graduate and a hitman with a conscience.
How all this goes does down is more Bollywood than Brokeback Mountain. Get ready for buckets of tears, torrential rain when people kiss, and some really bad luck in the form of AIDS, abusive thugs, a molesting stepfather and a dying mother. Despite Chaiwat Thongsang “Tob” and Ratanabanrang Tosawat “A” being the most drop-dead gorgeous things on screen this year—their acting suffers from the melodramatic unrequited relationships (think Thai soap opera) director Poj Arnon puts them in.

Two things save Bangkok Love Story from disaster. The first is the photography (by director of photography Tiwa Maithaisong). It turns Bangkok into a character in its own right, and elevates many of its features (the Chao Phraya and Wat Arun, the Giant Swing, derelict moldy concrete buildings with rusted front grates, the BTS and the skyline) beyond banality and into icons like New York's Brooklyn Bridge and fire escapes; or Paris' quays of the Seine River and slate rooftops. Visually, Bangkok Love Story will remain a landmark in Thai cinema.

The movie’s second saving grace is the audacity to make a gay gangster flick in Thailand. If you can cut past Arnon’s melodramatic style, the story he tells is quite interesting. The character of the cop embodies Thailand’s establishment: he’s rich, he has graduated from the Police Academy, he is destined to be a high-ranking officer and is about to marry into a good family. The true divide between him and his gangster crush is class, not that they are on opposite sides of the law, or even that they are having a secret gay affair. In an effort to close the gap, the cop helps his friend fight through the quagmire he finds himself in (disease, poverty, the brutality of the underworld) but systematically fails. In the end, Arnon makes a better case for hitmen who need to feed their families than for the Royal Police’s elite. That he chooses to do it through a gay love story is all the more remarkable.—Gregoire Glachant

Last Life in the Universe (Thai title: เรื่องรัก น้อยนิด มหาศาล, Ruang rak noi nid mahasan) (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Eu1auTtJxlo) - another of my favorites, an award winning, enigmatic story of a the male lead (an ex-yakuza) seeking death for a relief, in hope to accelerate & move on to the next incarnation... finds himself entangled in a new found friendship, while the ending poses a choice for viewers to linger & ponder about

i give it 4½* out of a possible 5*

(the jazzy-bosanova presentation of the OST 'Gravity' by Dharini Divari (http://youtube.com/watch?v=d_IgedA3Ndg) soothing to the ears as well)

Written by: Pen-Ek Ratanaruang, Prabda Yoon
Starring: Tadanobu Asano, Sinitta Boonyasak, Laila Boonyasak

Synopsis
Kenji is a mysterious librarian with the Japan Foundation in Bangkok. Living in an obsessively neat apartment full of precise stacks of books, he is convinced that death will be a pleasant nap between lives, but finds his half-hearted attempts to kill himself continually interrupted by the people around him. Kenji's most notable obstacle is his self-absorbed brother, Yukio, who may be a yakuza, or Japanese gangster. Yukio is on vacation from Japan to escape the wrath of his employer, whose daughter he slept with. Yukio's friend Takashi suggests that if it were his daughter, he would have the despoiler killed, but Kenji's brother laughs this warning off. Yukio frequents a club where he can enjoy the attention of a bunny-eared hostess, a local girl named Nid. Nid's sister, Noi, is furious at her sibling for having slept with her ex-boyfriend, Jon.

One day in the library, Kenji spies on Nid, clad in a school girl's uniform. Soon after, he discovers that his brother has hidden a pistol inside a teddy bear. He is about to shoot himself when Yukio is slain by Takashi, who was apparently hired by Yukio's employer. Takashi sees Kenji, who appears hopeful at his impending death, but suddenly Kenji shoots and kills the assassin. Not long after that, Kenji is about to jump off a bridge when Noi and Nid, driving past, have an argument. Noi throws Nid out of the car, then reconsiders. Nid, distracted by Kenji sitting on the railing of the bridge, is struck by another car and slain.

Kenji and Noi, both having lost a sibling, form a tentative friendship. The introspective Kenji asks the extroverted Noi if he can stay with her, unwilling to spend time with the two corpses in his apartment. Noi agrees, and invites the fussy Japanese man into her disastrously unkempt beachside home. As Kenji begins cleaning, Noi prepares to leave for Japan to further her career. Surreal elements creep into the film; Noi sees the house magically cleaning itself, while Kenji watches Noi transform into her temptress sister. The couple, in some ways polar opposites and in some ways mirror images, form a semi-romantic relationship. Meanwhile, the abusive and promiscuous ex-boyfriend Jon begins calling, angry that Noi thinks she can leave him. Three yakuza are also dispatched to find out what has happened to Takashi.

In the final segments, Kenji drives Noi to the airport, then decides he will join her. He returns to his apartment to gather his things and purposely knock over a stack of books. While he is in the bathroom, first Jon, then the yakuza arrive. Jon is slain, and Kenji apparently escapes out the window. The movie then cuts back and forth between two apparent endings: one, in which Kenji has been arrested for some unspecified crime, and another in which after been arrested briefly, he re-united with Noi in Japan.

Throughout the movie are images of the furtive gecko who lives in Noi's house, as well as The Last Lizard, Kenji's children's book about a reptile who wakes up to discover he is the final member of his species. The fictional lizard realizes that even being with his enemies, the other lizards who picked on him, was preferable to being alone.

Interpretation
Some people, perplexed by the ending, have suggested that Kenji is indeed reunited with Noi, after a brief detainment by the authorities. Others claim that he is merely dreaming about her, which is a much healthier fantasy than killing himself. Whether he was arrested for killing two people or five is also up for debate. Still others suggest that the entire movie is structured like the famous story An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, a could-have-been life flashing before Kenji's eyes in the instant before he successfully hanged himself or was slain by Takashi.

Another complication is the possibility that Kenji, despite his bookish demeanor, is actually a former yakuza himself. The elaborate tattoo on his back seems to support this view, though some claim that Kenji and Noi are merely imagining themselves as becoming more like their deceased siblings, as evidenced by the sudden revealing of Kenji's elaborate back tattoo (some have also speculated that Kenji's brother is in fact his Yakuza brother or "Aniki" and not his blood relative) and the scenes in which Noi is actually seen as the image of her sister, switching actresses and costumes in between shots of the same scene. However, it would be hard to argue that Kenji's skillful use of a firearm in the dark, in the beginning of the film, as well as his strength when he attacks Jon after Jon assaults Noi, was imagined.

Awards
Last Life in the Universe was awarded in Thailand two times by the Thailand National Film Association Awards and the FIPRESCI Prize (Bangkok International Film Festival). It also received the Upstream Prize at the Venice Film Festival and the AQCC Award and Jury Prize in Fant-Asia Film Festival. It was also chosen to be Thailand's official submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2003.

Shutter - ชัตเตอร์ กดติดวิญญาณ

http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee18/jwny1/Shutterposter.jpg

Directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun / Parkpoom Wongpoom

Produced by Yodphet Sudsawad

Starring Ananda Everingham / Natthaweeranuch Thongmee / Achita Sikamana

Plot:

While driving home one night after a gathering with friends, Tun (Everingham) and Jane (Thongmee) accidentally hit a woman who is crossing the street. Shocked, Jane wants to see if the woman is alright, but Tun insists they flee the scene.

Sometime later, while taking pictures of a graduating class, Tun notices a horrible-looking face standing between the graduates. When he has the pictures developed, he notices the faint profile of a face in one picture. While looking closer, the face turns in a flash, revealing a haunted face with a fierce gaze.

Tun continues to have strange experiences and eerie encounters with the entity from the pictures. He has a persistent neck-ache since the accident, but a doctor finds no physical cause. Tun also has a bizarre encounter with his friend Tonn, who sneaks into Tun's apartment and claims that he needs the photos Tun has hidden away or else "she" will kill him.

Jane, who's been sensing strange things as well, decides to investigate the school where the ghostly images were taken. She soon discovers a photo of the girl in Tun's pictures, and looking in a yearbook, discovers a picture of her with Tun.

http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee18/jwny1/200x130_shutter.jpg

Meanwhile, Tun checks on Tonn at his apartment, but finds the place a wreck, and the table is covered with pictures which show ghostly blurs like those in many of Tun's pictures. At that point he turns to see Tonn jumping off the balconey to his death. He then learns from Tonn's wife that his other two close friends have also committed suicide.

Jane finds out that the girl on the photos was Tun's ex-girlfriend, Natre (Sikamana). Tun says that his friends used to think Natre was strange, so he kept his relationship with her a secret. When Tun broke-up with Natre, he says that she threatened to kill herself, so his friends said they would take care of the situation for him, after which time he never heard from her again. They decide to pay a visit to Natre's hometown to see what became of her.

On the trip Tun sees Natre standing behind them on the road in the rear-view mirror, so he speeds away from the intersection at 120 km/h, but Natre appears outside the passenger window, then on the trunk of the car, which causes Tun to swerve off the road. When they arrive at Natre's mother's house, they notice a foul stench, and they soon find Natre's decaying body in a bedroom upstairs. Tun and Jane persuade Natre's mother to have her remains cremated so her spirit can finally rest. They discover that she committed suicide by jumping off a hospital roof after a failed attempt to overdose on pills.

That night in their hotel room, Tun is haunted by Natre, who chases him down the staircase and then out onto the fire escape. She causes him to fall off and he wakes up in hospital the next day. Jane tells him that Natre is to be cremated that day and that their troubles are over.

However, when Jane has her vacation photos developed, an extra roll of film (which shot itself prior to their leaving to go to Natre's house) has also been developed, and in the photos she sees a visage crawling across their living room floor. Jane orders the pictures sequentially and sees that the visage is slowy crawling towards the bookshelf.

In the bookshelf she finds negatives which she develops, and discovers that Natre was raped by Tun's friends, while Tun himself took pictures and refused to help her. In disgust, Jane leaves Tun, who then begins burning all of the pictures in which Natre's ghost has appeared.

Tun calls upon Natre and asks if she really loves him and if her love is really everlasting. He begins taking pictures of the apartment to find out where she is, but can't find any trace of her so he throws the camera down in anger. However, the Polaroid takes a snapshot automatically while pointed at him and Tun looks at the image as it develops. To his horror, he sees that Natre was actually with him all the time: on his shoulders. This explains his neck pain, his sudden weight gain on a scale and other events in the movie.

Natre covers his eyes, blinding him, and Tun backs up and falls out the window of his apartment, but luckily he survives. Jane visits him at the hospital where a reflection on the glass on the door to his room reveals Natre still sitting on Tun's shoulders, showing that so long as he lives, Natre will never leave him alone.

noticed a coincidence, lately movie script writers seem to use road accident in their movies... amnesia for some movies too

last life in the universe - rd accident led to the lead roles to know each other
shutter - couple conversing, hit a girl crossing the road
me, myself - female lead driving while on the phone, hits the male lead on the rd
... i guess there'd be more...

Anybody saw an acclaimed thai movie 2005/6 on some boys boarding school (excuse my forgetting title)?

Interesting story on a boy growing up in boarding school away from his family, and befriending a dead boy (drowned in pool). Reading porn mags under blankets and all silly stuff boys amuse with. Headmistress and dad guilt ridden (former with pool fatality). Touching movie, I thought.. different from usual horror, accidents genre.

I agree that the message can be brought across to the audience without the use of a supernatural being but asian cinema was riding on the crest of the horror wave,so no ghost probably means no huge box office collections.

a lonely set in his ways middle age taxi driver, and he keeps his typical humor tied in a straightjacket as he remains passive and almost uncommunicative throughout the film. Much of this as viewers learn later is due to a shocking episode in his past that seems to have sucked the life out of him. He does the late shift on the empty streets of Bangkok and prefers it that way – when he can drive and listen to a radio station that plays old fashioned ballads, radio soap operas and reads letters from the lovelorn and lost in the big city. His days pass one like every other one as he isolates himself from all but a few other taxi drivers.

One evening he sees a young woman being mistreated by a man, but minds his own business and drives away – but a few nights later he picks her up along with her co-workers in front of a large massage parlor and drives her home. He begins to make a point of being there at the closing hour every night and soon Nual (Woranut – a TV soap star) begins to hire him to take her home every night and slowly tries to bring him out of his shell by treating him to McDonalds and shopping in the mall. As lovely as she is, she is just as empty in her own way – losing a bit of her soul to every client that chooses her behind the glass fishbowl. Bati writes to the radio DJ “Our jobs are similar. Once I’ve delivered my passenger I don’t know where to go because the destination was not mine. It is the same with her”

http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/9869/midnight4wa8.jpg

But just as you begin to lie back in comfort waiting for the inevitable romance to take place, the film suddenly takes a startling dark turn that throws many of these expectations into a drainage ditch, but when all seems lost an ending that seems inspired by the ending of “Comrades: A Love Story” will warm your cold heart and colder feet. There are no passionate fireworks in the film – it is extremely simple and much of the time it is Bati just listening to his station and imagining himself in the radio soaps (the only sections where Jokmok is more like his usual self as he parodies them wonderfully). As good as Woranut is – and she received a Thai film nomination for her role – the fact that she is stunningly lovely makes the romance take on a bit of a fantasy aspect – it really is hard to imagine her with the suppressed much older Bati – but nevertheless you sure want them to be. This is the director’s second film – his first was the well-received Sayew and he also wrote the script to “The Letter”, a very popular tear drenched romance from a few years ago.

Year: 2005
Running Time: 91 minutes

a lonely set in his ways middle age taxi driver, and he keeps his typical humor tied in a straightjacket as he remains passive and almost uncommunicative throughout the film.

Jan Dara (Thai: จัน ดารา) (http://youtube.com/watch?v=S9WNZ8n0LtY) - another movie that many would have crowded the box office for the love of christy chung. i guess this was a case of what they may say, $ talks. rich man can afford many wives & concubines... the old man was literally screwing most of the women living under his roof. towards the end, there's narrator utters about karma issues as well.

i rate it: 3¼* out of a possible 5*

Synopsis
Jan (http://www.cinemasia.co.th/theater/img/jandara_gallery/pic04.jpg) is a young man growing up in 1930s Siam in a wealthy, dysfunctional family (http://www.cinemasia.co.th/theater/img/jandara_gallery/pic01.jpg) where sex has a huge impact on everyone's lives. Jan Dara is viewed by his father, Khun Luang (http://www.cinemasia.co.th/theater/img/jandara_gallery/pic02.jpg), as cursed, since his mother died in childbirth. The abusive Luang is a womaniser who has sex with many woman in front of the portrait of his late wife.

The younger sister of Jan's mother, Aunt Waad, is brought in to care for Jan. Luang has sexual relations with her, which raises causes young Jan to be jealous, since he has developed feelings for Waad. Waad and Luang have a daughter, who is the apple of Luang's eye. From the beginning, he teaches her to hate the "bastard Jan". Waad, in return, treats Jan like her own son and despises Kaew.

Later another of Khun Luang's women, the sophisticated nymphomaniac Boonlueang (http://www.cinemasia.co.th/theater/img/jandara_gallery/pic05.jpg), moves into a guesthouse on the estate, and she teaches Jan his first lessons in the ways of love.

Jan is then framed for the rape of Kaew, who was having relations with the son of one of the family's maids. But it is Jan who ends up punished for Kaew's transgressions. Later, it emerges that Kaew is pregnant. To smooth over the damage to the family's reputation, Jan is asked to return to the family estate and is forced into an arranged marriage with his half-sister Kaew. He does so, as long as he's promised the deed to the estate, which he views as a form of vindication against his father for the abuse he endured from him during his childhood.

Kaew, meanwhile, enters into a lesbian relationship with Boonlueang. Further, she refuses to have the baby she's carrying, and with Boonlueang's assistance, performs a bloody, self-administered abortion.

Jan subsequently finds himself repeating the libidinous patterns of his father, going as far as to have sex with a maid in his father's sitting room, in front of the portrait of his mother. Jan wonders why he can't escape the cycle of sexual abuse started by his father. Then it is revealed that Jan is the product of a gang rape of his mother.

Hi,

I got this original DVD from DVD shop @ one of the BTS three months ago. Can't recall which station, It cost me 200 Bahts for 2 DVD movies as the shop was having a retail promotion. It's indeed a nice movie, quite action pack, the ancient time of fighting. But my friend borrowed the DVD & lost it. Buy the original version as it comes with the Thai censor board endorsement, not only the quality is good at the same time @ the SG custom, when the ICS officer checks the DVD, show them the receipt & the DVD cover with the thai authority's endorsement, just tell them this is original not pirated copy. They unlikely penalise us, the most they will ask us to submit the DVD to censor board for further screening. Cheers.

Synopsis
The film is set in 1996, when the real team competed and won the national championships in Thailand. The two main characters, Mon and Jung, play two gay transvestites, who had been constantly overlooked by volleyball coaches because of their appearance. However, when a local team changes coaches, the new coach holds tryouts for a new team. When Mon and Jung are selected, most of the old players resign, leaving the new coach, Coach Bee, in a sticky predicament.

Mon and Jung are then forced to enlist the help of other gay and transsexual friends who they used to play volleyball with in university. These new players include Wit, who hasn't told his fiance he is gay, Pia, a transexual dancer and Nong, a gay army officer. When the competition begins, all but one player in the team are gay or transsexual.

Because of their appearance on court, many of the match officials intend to ban the team, soon dubbed "The Iron Ladies", from the tournament. However, seeing how much the team is liked by the crowd soon changes many of their opinions.

At the end credits of the film, the real "Iron Ladies" are shown as they were at the time of making the film.

Nomination/ Awards
A hit in Thailand as well as the international film festival circuit, the film has been nominated 12 times and won 10 awards, including the Thailand National Film Association Awards, Toronto International Film Festival and the reader award of german LGBT magazine Siegessäule at the Berlin International Film Festival. It also played at the Pusan International Film Festival, the San Francisco Asian American Film Festival, the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, the Seattle International Film Festival and the San Francisco International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival.

In 2003, the combined sequel and prequel called Satree lek 2 [1] was released. The film is based upon how the characters of The Iron Ladies met, and how they would later reunite for another vollyball tournament.

February (Thai: กุมภาพันธ์ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcWVI8KlzvY) or Khumphaphan) is 1 of a few Thai romance drama I find captivating. Art direction tastefully taken & filmed in NY City.
Rating: 4.5 / 5

The Plot-
Kaewta (http://www.cinemathai.com/stills/2003/February-2003/February-2003-04-b.jpg) a budding artist-painter doomed with critical illness, having a bad patch in life, decides to visit her friend in NYC to enjoy her final months. She suspects something is wrong in her taxi ride, jumps the cab & gets into an accident, resulting in amnesia.

Faced with a totally unfamiliar environment, Kaewta is taken in by Jeeradech (http://www.cinemathai.com/stills/2003/February-2003/February-2003-05-b.jpg), coincidentally also a Thai in NYC. Though he shelters her, give her warmth and comfort, she learns that he has a lot of secrets. Over time, they develope a bond, Jeeradech not knowing of her medical condition is not prepare for the worse days to come.

Kaewta was soon spotted by chance while she was doodling at the spot, where she was instructed to wait for Jeeradech, who'd return to fetch her after his errand runs. The couple then prepared themselves after the scout offers to sponsor an event to showcase Kaewta's works, while Jeeradech being her guardian & "BF" gets to be a part of the show.

Eventually, Kaewta's ailing health caught up with her, hospitalised and requried immediate surgery, Jeeradech is forced to re-live his days, risking his life for the mafia in order to raise the $ for her medical expenses. He gets wounded badly while on his runs, and never knew of her repatriation back to BKK, financed by her next of kin.

She recovers from the surgery and amnesia, nearly forgetting about Jeeradech, but then decides to revisit NYC after countless prompting and questioning from her friends.

http://www.cinemathai.com/stills/2003/February-2003/February-2003-07-b.jpg

She searched the familiar places with the help of her friend in NYC, seeking the missing benefactor. She finally finds him at the usual meeting place in the park, unfortunately it was the last time they were to meet. He collapses & dies from his untreated wound.

Thank you for your link & swift attention. My Thai not up to par yet to listen radio stations. Imho still easier to learn Thai from songs with lyrics in hand. Harder trying to pick up Thai from movies....usually end up pressing pause button too often & not enjoying the film :)

Citizen Dog - หมานคร

http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee18/jwny1/18648578.jpg

Director - Wisit Sasanatieng

Producer - Charoen Iamphungporn (exec) / Aphiradee Iamphungporn / Kiatkamon Iamphungporn / Rewat Vorarat

Starring - Mhasmuth Bhunyaruk / Sangthong Kaitauthong / Chuck Stephens

Plot:

Pod is a country boy who moves to Bangkok, despite his grandmother's warning that he'll grow a tail. He finds a small house to live in and takes a job in a sardine cannery, getting rides to work on the back of a motorcycle taxi, the rider of which has been made a zombie after one day it rained motorcycle helmets and he wasn't wearing one.

One hot day the assembly line at the cannery malfunctions. In the confusion, Pod chops his index finger off and it ends up in a can that is trucked away to a local grocery store. He searches everyday, buying can after can of sardines. Eventually he sees a can jumping around and opens it to find a finger. He attaches it simply by pressing it into place.

But something doesn’t feel right. He must have someone else’s finger. During a lunch break, he recognises his own finger on a co-worker who’s getting ready to pick his nose. He wrests the finger away and gives the man the other finger in return. The nose-picker is named Yod, and the two become friends.

Not wishing to lose any more fingers, Pod quits the factory and becomes a security guard. On the job in an office, he meets Jin, a maid who has her nose perpetually buried in a mysterious white book written in a foreign language that she dreams of someday understanding. The book literally landed at her feet one day while she was still living in the countryside, and since then she has been trying to decipher its meaning. She has obsessive-compulsive disorder, which makes her want to constantly clean and set things in order.

Pod is smitten and wishes to be closer to Jin. Inspired by Yod and his Chinese empress girlfriend, who consummated their relationship on a crowded bus, Pod asks Jin if she would like to ride the bus. But Jin refuses, saying she breaks out in a rash whenever she takes crowded public transport. Pod quits his job as a guard and becomes a taxicab driver so he can drive her to work.

Eventually, he expresses his true feelings for Jin, but she’s become obsessed with a hippie farang, whom she's seen reading the same white book she has. She imagines the man is named Peter and believes he is an environmental activist. Inspired, she starts collecting plastic bottles, gathering enough to create a mountain that towers over the city, and joins an environmental protest movement calling for a ban on plastic.

Meanwhile, Pod has adventures in his taxicab, giving rides to a little girl with a foul mouth who smokes cigarettes and plays videogames. She has a teddy bear who also swears, smokes and drinks whiskey, and she eventually throws the teddy bear away. Another passenger is a man who incessantly licks things, and Pod must find a solution to make him stop. He also meets his grandmother, reincarnated as a gecko, who repeats her premonition that he'll grow a tail if he stays in the city.

This one is 3 stories....I liked Corpse Oil the best....this DVD can find in rental shops

Director: Pisuth Praesaeng-Iam ("Legend of the Drum" and "Black Magic Woman")
Oxide Pang (" Revenge")
Year: 2002
Starring: Pimsiree Pimsee (Jieb), Dawan Singha-wee (Pan), Kalyanut Sriboonrueng (Gunya), Pete Thong-juer (Nop)
Time: 2 hrs 10 minutes

A film clearly has to be more than a few memorable images that capture your imagination. I had seen the trailer for this film a few months ago and was knocked out by it – a series of fast moving images of an eyeless woman, a corpse in a morgue blinking, an eerie traditional Thai dance, long razor sharp fingernails searching for a victim, a woman hanging from a rope – that made the film look both exotic and inviting. Unfortunately, after finally having the opportunity to see it the film’s quality does not match those retina-retaining images. The film contains three supernatural tales – all told by three modern women sitting around a table at a Bangkok bar. One problem that the segments all have is they all run a bit long – all over 40 minutes – and feel slightly padded. Another issue is that though I thought all the stories had a definite potential, they somehow fell short of it – either by ending on a lackluster note or simply not making a lot of sense.

The word of mouth on the film has been pretty negative – in fact one web site I came upon had a poll and 87% of the nearly 100 respondents voted that they “hated it”. I can’t quite understand this reaction to the film – perhaps I have suffered through too many Troublesome Night films, but I thought there was a lot to enjoy here. The production standards are high, the cinematography is excellent, the locales are interesting and the stories are intriguing and original even if lacking in scares and finally being disappointing. The first two episodes are directed by Pisuth Praesaeng-Iam while the final one was directed by Oxide Pang.

Legend of the Drum (44 minutes) – Jieb accidentally receives an old drum in a shipment that appears to have an angry history behind it. She begins seeing apparitions and wonders if there is a connection to the drum. The story flashes back to 1917 Bangkok in which a love between a Thai dancer and a musician comes to tragedy – somehow the drum seems to have carried a spirit inside that is looking for something – but exactly what is never made clear.

Corpse Oil (40 minutes) – Pan isn’t having much luck of late with the opposite sex and so when her not so attractive next door neighbor - who seems to have lots of male lovers - tells her that it is due to a love potion, Pan skeptically gives it a go. The results are amazing good – much too good it turns out - the contents for the potion come from the local morgue and seem to carry all the bitterness of their former owners. Be prepared for a lot of vomiting.

Revenge (45 minutes) – a policeman is sure that an apparent suicide of a young woman by hanging has to be murder – where is the chair – why are there marks of a struggle - and he sets out to find the killer. As he proceeds it becomes clear that the ghost of the woman is helping – or is she? This one had a pretty good plot and a clever ending that I didn’t see coming till the very end and neither did the cop.

Not seen this one but from the review like not bad.....will go search for it

Dang Bireley & The Young Gangsters
Director: Nonzee Nimibutr (debut film)
Year: 1997
Starring: Jessadaporn Pholdee (Dang), Noppachai Muttaweewong (Lam Sing), Attaporn Teemakorn (Piak), Chartchai Ngamsan (Dum), Suppakorn Kitsuwan (Pu), Champagne X (Wallapa)
Running Time: 1 hr 45 minutes

Dang Bireley's mother is a prostitute, and he kills his first man at the age of 13 (a customer that got violent with his mum). One might say that fate had him down for the gangster lifestyle from the start. In 1950's Thailand, under a corrupt military government, it seems that the only options for the youth are to become a gangster or one of their bitter rivals, the engineering students, so maybe it didn't take that much of fate at all. At the age of 16 he starts his first business, a protection racket, and from there goes on to become one of Thailand's most famous gangsters of the era.

DANG BIRELEY has a lot in common with the Korean movie FRIEND - in fact, if Thai cinema has penetrated Korean shores at all then I have no doubt it strongly influenced the latter movie. Despite FRIEND'S record box office, I found it to be a rather dull affair - perhaps due to over-high expectations. Perhaps my expectations for DANG BIRELEY were not quite so high, or perhaps it's just that it's a better movie because I definitely enjoyed it more.

Friendship is the theme, as the movie follows the lives of Dang Bireley and his close friends, not all of whom will remain close friends as inevitable conflicts come between them. DANG BIRELEY pays quite a bit attention to recreating the 1950s mood, and it is pretty evocative, if not quite down to the finest detail that FRIEND manages. This is balanced with a very modern filming style though - a very kinetic camera and edgy framing/editing, not over done but there are some very cool and interesting visuals.

The movie comes from writer Wisit Sartsanatieng and director Nonzee Nimimbutr - the director and producer of the transcendent TEARS OF THE BLACK TIGER, with which it also shares some key cast members. A testament to the great talents of these film makers is how completely different the two movies are though (with Nonzee's NANG NAK being utterly different again). The movie is pretty serious in tone, though not as dry as FRIEND and definitely not suffering from the vaguely sickly nostalgia that permeates the Korean movie. It is presented as the occasionally narrated memories of one of Dang's gang - and though he obviously remembers Dang very fondly, his memories of the times are not particularly cheerful. There's a lot of violence, corruption and hardship around.

The story of Dang Bireley's life is a touching one. The bonds between the friends are very strong, and the characters mostly well painted and believable. I think the performances are top notch, though my unfamiliarity with the Thai language makes it difficult to judge this completely accurately. Script is great, direction great, cinematography great... generally a quality movie, though it is let down a little by an ending that feels a little awkward (though presumably this is due to the inconvenience of the real world having ended that way). Whilst not flawless, the movie still comes with my recommendation.
Note: When it was released in 1997 it broke the box office record for Thailand at the time. It also won the Thai award for Best film that year as well as being the Grand Prix Winner at the 1998 Brussels International Film Festival. The film is based on true events and was sourced from a book (The Mafia Route) written by one of the gang members many years later.

I watched some Thai movies when I was living in Bangkok earlier this year. I am out of the country now. Will see if I can contribute when I get back home to Singapore.

I am going to Bangkok again in October. I will definitely want to see if some of the DVD of these movies are available (hopefully with English substitles).

if u're roaming siam area, then the places u can try r typically; MBK, siam central, siam square. dont underestimate some of the smaller joints, they just might have what u're looking for, sometimes might also have bootleg productions. eventually, if the DVDs don't have english subtitles... then i guess u'd just have to make do with it, or learn thai to better appreciate it.

When I was staying in BKK earlier this year, I bought a lot of 100 baht or 2 for 100 baht DVDs. I only select those with English subtitles. However 2 of the DVD did not have English sub despite stating on the cover of the DVD.

A word of advice for those who are planning to buy DVD less than 100baht (original ones, not copies). I was staying in Bangkok for several months and was a sucker for buying cheap DVD with english subs. I have as many as a dozen DVDs with that price range. So far, only 3 movies was worth the money. The rest I cannot even last half the movie before switching it off.

I love to buy Concert DVD. I bought Palmy, Bird and Masha concerts. They are quite good. I am a big fan of Palmy followed by Bird.

I would love to buy Karaoke DVD but I do not know where to find them. I want to collect Palmy's Karaoke MTV.

Synopsis
Dew (Anne Thongprasom) is a young computer programmer who meets Ton (Attaporn Teemakorn) in Chiang Mai during her distant cousin's funeral. They immediately become attracted to each other and start to date each other over the phone.

Back in Bangkok on Valentine's Day, Dew refuses to accompany her best friend, Ked, to a blind date because she is anxiously waiting for Ton's phone call. The consequence of this breaks Dew's heart as her friend is murdered by the blind date.

Dew immediately leaves for Chiang Mai and finds comfort in Ton. The two start a serious relationship and marry soon after. However, their new-found happiness is cut short when Ton dies of a brain tumor. Dew is again left alone.

Before leaving for Bangkok, she receives a mysterious letter, seemingly from her dead husband. As it turns out, Ton had written a series of letter prior to his death and arranged for them to be sent after his death to his widow. The letters help Dew through her grief. She finally is able to live without the love of her life and continues to live in Chiang Mai with their son, born after the death of his father.

Poduction & release
The Letter was the last film produced by Duangkamol Limcharoen before she died on December 8, 2003, at age 39. Director Pa-oon Chantornsiri, making her first feature film, agreed to take on the project, as a favor to her producer-friend. [1]

Starring popular Thai soap opera actress Anne Thongprasom, the film was a hit at the local box office. Facial tissues were handed out in front of cinemas for free in anticipation of the audiences' reactions to the final scenes.

"It's an effective melodrama, a movie of well-executed cliches and retro sensibilities," wrote Bangkok Post film critic King Rithdee. "But only Anne's performance – especially her ability to switch on a fountain of tears – conceals the insubstantial nature of the film's build-up and its banal, I-love-you-forever kind of dialogue. Don't forget to bring a handkerchief. Or better still, a towel."[2]

Variety critic Russell Edwards called the film "slow-moving" and "glossy". "[It] doesn't just tug on the heartstrings but uses them to drop anchor in a sea of schmaltz.

Festivals & awards
Anne Thongprasom won for Best Actress at the Thailand National Film Association Awards. The film also won for Best Original Song, "Mai Mee Chai Mai", by Chartchai Pongprapapan.

The Letter was screened at the 2004 Pusan International Film Festival.

Year: 2005
Running Time: 91 minutes

Film Summary:

a lonely set in his ways middle age taxi driver, and he keeps his typical humor tied in a straightjacket as he remains passive and almost uncommunicative throughout the film. His days pass one like every other one as he isolates himself from all but a few other taxi drivers.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a197/vmtech/midnight2222.jpg

This is the director’s second film – his first was the well-received Sayew and he also wrote the script to “The Letter”, a very popular tear drenched romance from a few years ago.

did that, but only managed to get 1 out of 11 that i m lookin for ... actually did found a store near sukhumvit soi 14 selling lots of art house film (mostly foreign film) ... but a bit ex ... :(it all depends on your luck sometimes. i think at 1 of the stalls on (MBK)level 3 (or was it level 4 - can't quite recall), there was a CD shop & a DVD/VCD shop located side by side.... they had quite a decent collection dating to about 2-3yrs back (some even older). however, limited stock - if sold out, then just have to try your luck elsewhere. the other 1 in siam central on level 4 (or was it 5, think there've been some renovation since)... they had quite a healthy collection of current movies. then of course they've a few other shops in siam paragon, u might just find what u're looking for, but chances r it'd be available at the recommended retail price only

Suteerak1099 did a review of that movie earlier in the thread look for it! :) last life in they universe, i think its probably rare to find these days... its been about 4-5yrs since its release, and it was considered some art house movie. so i doubt they actually produced alot of the DVDs. but since its also available in japanese, u just might find it available in japan...? another alternative, go to the local HMV make a request purchase (but very likely at a higher price)

Hi! The problem does not lies with the d/loading part.

The problem is that after d/loading all the 6 files, I try to unzip them but when the unzipping part reach part 3, it cannot be unzipped and according to the winzip software, it reflects it as a corrupted file.

Apparently, the "Suriyothai" (English subtitled version, not the full length 3-DVD version) is pretty nice (it was made back in 2001/3, so it's oredi 6 years ago!?)

The upcoming one - The Legend of King Naresuan (Thai: ตำนานสมเด็จพระนเรศวรมหาราช, Tamnan Somdej Phra Naresuan) is gonna be a 3-parter, late 2007 to finish filming. A Thai biographical historical drama film about King Naresuan the Great, who ruled Siam from 1590 until his death in 1605. Looks like it's gonna take a while before one gets to see this.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/0c/KingNaresuanposter.jpeg

And to know Ayutthaya, I visited this link (http://www.simply-thai.com/Thailand_History_Ayutthaya_Period.htm) with page-2 describing Suriyothai, other pages described subsequent events (incl Naresuan) briefly...

Pod is a man without a dream. He's a country bumpkin who comes to work at a tinned sardine factory in Bangkok. One day, Pod chops off his finger and packs it in the can, prompting him to go around looking for his lost finger at various supermarkets. The incident convinces him to change his job, and Pod becomes a security guard at a large company. There he meets Jin, a lanky maid who carries a mysterious white book around even though she cannot read a single word written in it. The aimless Pod has a crush on Jin, a dreamy girl who dreams that one day she'll be able to decipher the meaning of the white book. In this bright, colour-splashed world of director Wisit Sasanatieng, Bangkokians can grow tails and a dead grandmother can come back as a chatty gecko to deliver a few life lessons to her grandson. It's a world where innocence is so precious and yet impossible to preserve. The unusual love story between Pod and Jin is set against the playfully ironic portrait of Bangkok, the city that offers false dreams and real disillusionment Written by Anonymous

Follow the life of Pod as he moves to Bangkok from the country. Pod's new life starts with getting a job, loosing a finger and dreaming about a girl. A movie were nothing is impossible, and just because you get killed by raining red helmets doesnt mean you have to stop driving motorcycle taxi. In the middle of all this crasy stuff Pod has to watch out so he doesnt grow a tail like his grandma warned him from. Jin, the girl that Pod loves, on the other hand is in love with a guy she calls Petter since thats the only foregin name she knows and dreams about one day understand the book she founded that is written in a diffrent language. Written by Daniel Granquist

A strange, colorful romantic comedy by the director of Tears of the Black Tiger is the story of a country boy named Pod. He heads to the city to look for work, heedless of his grandmother who warns he'll grow a tale as soon as he finds a job. He takes a job first in a sardine cannery and loses a finger, only to find it again. He then becomes a security guard in an office and meets a maid, an introverted girl named Jin who obsessively cleans and reads a mysterious white book that she can't understand. Pod, a man with no dreams, is drawn to Jin. He changes jobs again, to a taxi driver, to help her out. However, Pod will have to take a backseat to Jin's other obsessive natures.
